Your blog can be a sort of online diary or journal where you record your thoughts on a daily basis, or it can be a website where you write about a subject that you are passionate about, or it can be a sort of business and opportunity to make some money by working at home. You can fill your blog with written articles, with videos that you record, with photos that you have taken, with podcasts that you have recorded, or with just about anything else that can be posted to the internet. Your blog can be just about anything that you want it to be, and the great part about blogging is that it is so easy to get started, without spending a dime. The only thing required of you if you want to start blogging is an internet connection and the time and dedication to start blogging.
There are many benefits to blogging, depending on what exactly you are trying to get out of the experience. If you have a bit of knowledge or expertise in a particular area, you can start an educational blog and teach others about your area of expertise. A blog can also be a money maker with the use of advertising and affiliate marketing programs, but you can also sell e-books, or merchandise such as t-shirts and coffee mugs; the possibilities for ways to make money by blogging are limited only by your imagination. Some people even simply ask for donations from their readers, which can be a very lucrative income stream, if your blog is so entertaining or useful that your readers would feel a serious loss if it were to go offline.
Once you have made the decision to start blogging, the first thing you need to do is set up a blog. You should decide whether you want a free blog hosted online by a free blogging platform, at one of their URLs, or if you want to spend a little money on a dot com address and a web hosting package. Free blogs can be every bit as successful as a blog that you spend money on, but free blogs tend not to be nearly as customizable as a self hosted blog.
